Supporting the success of children and families

Kelly - Special education advocate

Meet Kelly, Executive Director and Senior Advocate

Kelly started her career as a special education teacher over 20 years ago.  She is a Pennsylvania Certified Teacher in the areas of Special Education (K-12) and Elementary Education (K-6).  She graduated from Kutztown University and there she also met her best friend and husband, David.  They have 4 children that bring them great joy and keep them on their toes at all times.  Kelly also held a director position where she gained experience in public speaking, team building, and leadership training.

About her passion for helping children and families:

I am deeply passionate about supporting the success of children and families, with a particular focus on empowering parents as the true experts on their children—often more knowledgeable than any school or professional. I’ve seen firsthand how communication can break down when legal teams become involved, and I strive to keep conversations productive and collaborative by fostering open dialogue between schools and parents while navigating within the framework of the law rather than simply following school preferences. As a former special education teacher, I bring a unique perspective that allows me to bridge the gap between families and schools. I understand the organizational structure of schools, the limitations districts may face regarding parent requests, and the potential resources schools can offer, even when they claim otherwise. Many parents are unaware of the federal, state, local, and district policies that govern education, particularly special education, as well as the extensive rights they possess. I am passionate about empowering parents with this knowledge so they can advocate effectively for their children’s needs.
